Eremo della Maddalena- Monterosso al Mare

My stay at the Eremo della Maddalena in the picturesque setting of Monterosso al Mare, part of the stunning Cinque Terre, was a dream come true.

This luxury hotel, set in a historical building, offered an exclusive retreat, delivering on many fronts with some minor setbacks.

The Good:

The Eremo della Maddalena is a marvel of historical architecture, offering a unique blend of rustic charm and modern amenities. Split into two wings, the property hosts 10 to 12 guests, with a covered courtyard connecting them, becoming the stay’s focal point.

The main wing welcomed us with a cozy living room, featuring a fireplace, leading into a fully equipped country-style kitchen.

It felt like stepping back in time, yet modern conveniences like Wi-Fi, dishwasher, and washing machine were readily available.

Each uniquely styled bedroom featured a cozy queen-size bed and private en-suite bathroom, ensuring guest comfort and privacy.

Extra living areas, like the spacious living room with a grand fireplace, became ideal spots for group gatherings, promoting camaraderie.

The villa’s outdoor amenities, particularly the swimming pool, were a highlight. No wander why thi hotel is considered as one of the best hotels in Cinque Terre!

They provided a refreshing escape from the summer heat and a stunning view of the surrounding landscape.

The convenience of having a bathroom accessible from the courtyard, especially useful when returning from the beach, was a thoughtful touch.

The Bads:

However, no experience is without its flaws. The charm of the historical property also meant navigating a few quirks and inconveniences. Though charming, the rusticity occasionally veered into discomfort, with certain areas of the villa feeling a bit worn or neglected.

The reliance on traditional keys for each room, while quaint, proved cumbersome at times, especially when trying to coordinate among a large group.

Accessibility was another concern at Eremo della Maddalena. Nestled in the rugged terrain of Cinque Terre, the villa was a challenge to reach, especially with luggage. You should be prepared for a bit of a trek, a detail that, while minor for some, could pose a significant inconvenience for others.

While the villa boasted modern amenities, we faced intermittent Wi-Fi and appliance issues, minor hiccups in an otherwise idyllic stay.

Bea’s Apartment – The window to the sea – Monterosso al Mare

During our stay at Bea’s Apartment – The Window to the Sea – Seafront in Monterosso al Mare, I was treated to mesmerizing sea views just steps away from both Fegina Beach and Monterosso Old Town Beach.

The Good

The cozy air-conditioned apartment had two bedrooms, a comfortable living room, and a fully equipped kitchen with a toaster and kettle.

The bathroom was well-equipped with a bidet and a hairdryer, and I appreciated the provided towels and bed linen.

Plus, there was a separate private entrance for added privacy at Bea Apartment, the best hotel in Cinque Terre, Monterosso Al Mare.

It was a delightful seaside retreat, with the added convenience of complimentary WiFi and a balcony overlooking the serene waters.

And with the property being non-smoking, I could fully enjoy the fresh sea breeze without any distractions.

The Bads

For the dates when I visited the region, the minimum length of stay at Bea’s apartment was 3 nights.

Located on the third floor, be prepared to carry heavy luggage up the stairs if needed. For us was not a problem as we generally travel light, but maybe for some of you is an issue.

I particularly enjoyed spending time on the patio, soaking in the mountain views amidst the outdoor furniture.

The apartment provided all the amenities, including bed linen, towels, and daily room service for convenience. The same services you get at the best hotels in Cinque Terre Italy.

Plus, there was even a mini-market available onsite.

The bads

The Sunset Suite Vernazza is located on a hillside of Cinque Terre so be prepared to climb a lot of stairs.

It is suitable for 2 adults and max 2 kids, not for 4 adults.

Candidina Vernazza

Candidina is a cozy 14 m² venue designed specifically to cater to the needs of up to 2 guests, featuring elegant marble floors that add a touch of sophistication to the space.

The same things I saw at the best hotels in Cinque Terre where you have to pay a lot of money for one night.

The goods

During my stay, I discovered the apartment’s convenient proximity to Vernazza train station and Oratorio della Confraternita dei Neri Mortis.

Nearby, within a short stroll, I found various dining options like Ristorante Pizzeria Vulnetia, Ananasso Bar, and Belforte.

Monterosso al Mare Beach and Sentiero Monterosso were a few steps away, offering easy access to seaside relaxation and scenic walks.

Regarding the accommodation, the rooms featured modern amenities like a flat-screen TV, comfortable sitting area, and convenient trouser press.

The venue also featured a kitchenette and a private bathroom, providing all the comforts of home. With one bathroom available, I never had to worry about any inconveniences during my stay.

The bads

The fan did not work in my room at Candidina, and it was too hot inside and you have to leave all the windows open.

La Torretta Lodge Manarola offered a hot tub and a sun deck, perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring. Situated just a short 5 minute walk from Manarola Marina, the location was ideal for enjoying the beauty of the coastline.

Throughout my stay, I appreciated the convenience of Wi-Fi available throughout the property and the option of private car parking onsite.

The proximity to Parco Nazionale delle Cinque Terre National Park, just a 10-minute ride away, made it easy to immerse myself in nature, while attractions like Presepe di Manarola and Borgo Storico di Manarola were within walking distance.

The lodge offered 13 rooms, some of which were furnished with a sofa and included amenities such as ironing facilities and air conditioning.

Each room of one of the best hotel in Cinque Terre featured a cable flat-screen TV, and the units overlooking the Ligurian Sea provided breathtaking views.

The ensuite bathrooms were well-appointed with a bidet, bathtub, separate toilet, and comforts like a hairdryer and dressing gowns.

With its convenient location and range of amenities, La Torretta Lodge provided the perfect base for my stay in Manarola.

The bads

The property sits at the very top of the pedestrian street next to the Church of San Lorenzo, which can be a challenging climb, especially in the afternoon sun.

Other things that might be disturbing for some of you are the small bathroom and the room size, which is relatively small (as most of the rooms in the area).

But from what I saw, the dimensions of the room are problematic even for some of the best hotels in Cinque Terre.

The Manarola Main Plaza

In Manarola, the Main Plaza where I stayed had excellent air conditioning, providing relief from the warm Italian weather.

The property boasted stunning views of both the mountains and the cityscape. Located just 1.8 km from Riomaggiore Beach, it offered convenient access to the seaside.

Inside the guest house, I found cozy family rooms, each equipped with a desk for convenience. My unit came with all the amenities I needed, including a coffee machine, a flat-screen TV, a safety deposit box, and complimentary WiFi.

Some rooms even had terraces, offering a delightful spot to enjoy the scenery, while others provided breathtaking views of the sea.

Of course, all units from the Main Plaza had private bathrooms stocked with a hair dryer and fresh bed linen, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

The bads

I find the room a little “tired” and I think a refurbishment would be quite needed.

I stayed at Il Rifugio sul mare in Riomaggiore, just steps away from Riomaggiore Beach. It was a perfect location, being 7.3 miles from the Technical Naval Museum and 8.6 miles from the Amedeo Lia Museum.

The air-conditioned accommodation was also conveniently close to Castello San Giorgio.

Il Rifugio sul Mare is located on the second floor so you have to carry your luggage on the stairs.

Crêuza de Mä Riomaggiore

During my stay in Riomaggiore, I had the pleasure of experiencing Crêuza De Mä, a charming seaside accommodation, and definitely the best hotel in Cinque Terre.

The property boasted an impressive array of amenities, including four terraces, a solarium, two gardens, a heated hot tub, and two outdoor showers.

The availability of free WiFi throughout the property was certainly convenient.

The rooms surpassed expectations and are often hailed as among the best in Italy. With multiple terraces enhancing the scenic beauty, every moment felt like a picturesque escape.

Each room offered breathtaking sea views and was well-appointed with air conditioning, a coffee machine, and a complimentary mini-bar.

Additionally, I appreciated the thoughtful extras such as bathrobes, slippers, free toiletries, and beach towels provided for my comfort.
